Fall All-CIF teams announced

After an exciting fall season closes, the All-CIF-San Diego Sections teams have been announced. The teams were selected by local media in accordance with the San Diego Hall of Champions.

VB: Torrey Pines’ Harrah steps down

Torrey Pines volleyball coach Jim Harrah is stepping down to spend more time with his family, Terry Monahan of the North County Times reported.

Harrah resigned as the girls volleyball coach, ending a 31-year career that included 22 seasons with volleyball teams at Torrey Pines. Brennan Dean has taken over the girls team.

UT: Bryant, Halfaker honored

Lincoln boys basketball coach Jason Bryant and Ramona girls volleyball coach Connie Halfaker were honored by The San Diego Union-Tribune and the San Diego Hall of Champions as the section coaches of the year, the newspaper reported.

Bryant led the Hornets to the section’s first Division II state basketball title. Halfaker’s Bulldogs won the program’s first section title in Division II.

Coaching carosel: Jarrard, Johnson, Andrassy, Morris

El Camino boys basketball coach Jeff Jarrard has stepped down after one season, the North County Times reports.

The story went on the say athletic director Sean Helgesen hoped former head coach Ray Johnson would consider returning after a season on the staff of Farleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. Johnson said earlier returning to El Camino was an option, as was the position of head coach of Cal State San Marcos’ new program, debuting in 2011.

Johnson’s daughter Megan will take over as Carlsbad’s girls basketball coach, while Notre Dame alum Emily Andrassy will be the Lancers girls volleyball coach. Hoover High’s football program will be coaches by Cree Morris, who prepped at Orange Glen and played at San Diego State.

Moreno, Recasner named model coaches

Shannon Moreno of Mount Miguel and Glenn Recasner of El Cajon Valley are among 13 recipients of the California Interscholastic Federation’s Model Coach Award. Moreno coaches volleyball and softball. Recasner coaches cross country and track and field. The award recognizes coaches who have served as positive role models in their schools and communities.
