Fall All-CIF teams announced

After an exciting fall season closes, the All-CIF-San Diego Sections teams have been announced. The teams were selected by local media in accordance with the San Diego Hall of Champions.

FB: Nears leading Komets on and off field

Initially turned down for the job three years ago, Kearny alum Kenny Nears has led his alma mater to a 4-0 start in the Central League. It is just one of the many times Nears has managed to overcome obstacles.

FB: Del Norte’s Ralph moving on

Del Norte football coach Jerry Ralph has resigned in order to pursue another coaching job at a different school in North County, reported Terry Monahan of the North County Times.

Ralph started the program on the Del Norte’s campus two year’s ago. Previously, he had won two section titles as coach at St. Augustine.

FB: Calvin Chr. gets new coach

Randy Kreglow was named the new varsity football coach at Calvin Christian, the North County Times reported.

Kreglow replaces Bill Stout, who resigned after one season to concentrate on his job as the Crusaders’ athletic director.

FB: Elrod leaving Rancho Bernardo

Brad Elrod has resigned as Rancho Bernardo High football coach after 20 years with the program, the last four as head coach, the North County Times reported.

Tristan McCoy has been announced as Elrod’s replacement. McCoy was an All-CIF San Diego Section linebacker for the Broncos in the 1990s and an assistant with the team for the last six seasons.

FB: Ralph Del Norte’s first coach

Del Norte kicks off its first varsity football season this fall, and Jerry Ralph will be walking the sidelines as head coach.

The San Diego Union-Tribune and North County Times talked to Ralph about starting a new program on the campus, which is located in 4S Ranch. Ralph is best known for leading St. Augustine to consecutive San Diego Section Division III titles in 2005 and 2006.

Hiring of Haines changed football, says NCT

As part of the annual kickoff of the high school football season, the North County Times is one of many newspapers across the country that produces a preview section.

In the past, it has featured promiently a team, a coach or a handful of players. This season, though, is all about a moment.

Said the NCT: “The hiring of (late Coaching Legend Dick) Haines is the greatest moment in North County prep football history as selected by the prep staff of the North County Times.”

Haines was a member of the inaugural Coaching Legends Class of 1999.
