CIF: Labeta named new assistant commissioner

John Labeta, La Costa Canyon High’s athletic director and girls basketball coach, has been named the new assistant commissioner of the CIF-San Diego Section, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Labeta will work alongside Jerry Schniepp, who started on Sept. 1 as the section commissioner.

Meigs out as Torrey Pines AD

Torrey Pines High has replaced longtime athletic director Anne Meigs, the North County Times reported.

Assistant football coach Chas Doerrer replaces Meigs, who said she will continue to coach boys and girls tennis and teach three classes.

Coaching Carosel: Patterson, Hollingsworth

Orange Glen alum Jason Patterson has been named the new Patriots athletic director, replacing Sam Kristensen, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Kristensen left for a job in Idaho after serving in the position for one year. He was also the varsity baseball coach.

Calvin Christian has hired Brad Hollingsworth, the former head coach at Oceanside, as its new boys varsity basketball coach, the Union-Tribune reported.

For the past six years, Hollingsworth, who replaced Mark Carlson, assisted John O’Neill at Palomar College.


Coaching carosel: Pugh, Floco

Dennis Pugh has stepped down as athletic director at Mission Bay High, the Union-Tribune reports.

Pugh, who also served as football and baseball coach at the school, spent 37 years in all at Mission Bay.

“It’s time for me to move on,” Pugh told reporter Steve Brand.  “I want to give my full attention to the baseball team at San Marcos.”

Pugh is the baseball coach at Cal State San Marcos. Crista Allenhas been named the new AD.

In other news, former Clairemont football coach Rian Floco will replace Gene Alim at Otay Ranch.

Coaching carosel: Tarantino, Texler

It’s hard to imagine anyone but John Maffucci as athletic director at Army-Navy, but the school has found his replacement, the Union-Tribune reports.

Tom Tarantino will succeed Maffucci, who is retiring after 54 years at the school. Tarantino held the same position, as well as coached the boys basketball team, at Bishop’s.

Jason Texler, most recently at Helix after a historic run at El Cajon Valley, with take over the Scripps Ranch football program.
